I integrate several different modalities into every massage session to address each client's unique needs and goals.

Swedish

Developed in Sweden during the 18th and 19th centuries, this modality has become almost synonymous with massage in Western culture. Involving lighter pressure and flowing strokes, Swedish massage can induce great physical and mental relaxation.

Deep Tissue

As the name suggests, deep tissue massage is intended to manipulate deeper tissue layers through the use of firm pressure and slow, long strokes. This modality is useful for reducing muscle tension and increasing local blood flow.

Myofascial Therapy

Muscle and fascial tissue (the "myo-" and "-fascial" aspects of this therapy, respectively) work together to support, move, and compartmentalize structures throughout the body. Both acute physical trauma and chronic postural/movement dysfunctions can cause tension and irritation in these tissues, which in turn can cause pain and limited mobility. Myofascial therapy addresses such aggravated areas with concentrated work and deep, short strokes designed to engage different tissue layers.

Trigger Point Therapy

As defined by Drs. David Simons and Janet Travell in their pivotal work, Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction, "[m]yofasical trigger points (TrPs) are extremely common...often cause motor dysfuction (stiffness and restricted range of motion)... [and] may in addition cause pain" (1983, 12). A branch of myofascial therapy, trigger point therapy involves locating and "deactivating" these painful sites, leading to reduced muscle restriction and soreness.
